Ohio GOP Senator JD Vance faced criticism earlier in the week from CNN host Kaitlan Collins, who questioned him over reports from several of his constituents in Springfield, Ohio. These constituents had claimed to have witnessed illegal Haitian migrants capturing and consuming pets and other wildlife. Vance, former President Donald Trump’s running mate, addressed the issue after Trump brought it up during his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Collins questioned the validity of the reports, labeling them as “misleading and false” and citing that Springfield city officials had denied the incidents. However, Vance responded by pointing out that while local authorities hadn’t confirmed the claims, they hadn’t entirely dismissed them either, as they acknowledged the lack of concrete evidence. He further urged journalists to investigate the situation for themselves rather than relying solely on official statements.

Vance then emphasized that the broader issue being overlooked was the increasing number of illegal migrants entering smaller American cities under the Biden-Harris administration. He criticized the media for only focusing on the claims about pets, while neglecting the negative impact of migration on communities, including rising healthcare costs, housing problems as well as a rise in infectious diseases cases like HIV and TB in the area etc..

When Collins pressed him further, comparing the unsubstantiated claims to someone reporting a sighting of Bigfoot, Vance reiterated that both the media and elected officials had a duty to take their constituents’ concerns seriously, especially those who felt their lives had been disrupted by the migrant crisis.

Interestingly, the CNN segment was later posted on YouTube with the assertion that Vance was spreading misinformation despite the network not having sent reporters to the area to verify the claims firsthand.

In a separate event, as Trump and Harris were engaged in their debate, Trump’s campaign managers, Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, declared Trump the clear winner even before the debate had concluded. Their statement, shared by Real Clear Politics reporter Philip Wegmann, praised Trump for exposing Harris’ record of failure and outlining his vision for America. They compared this to Harris’s upholding of the Biden administration’s oppressive, big government policies, Even still, the campaign emphasized how clear-cut the decision was between the two candidates and reiterated that Trump will win and take back the White House.
