Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be the next U.S. Attorney General, although she has not stated if she will pursue any charges in connection with the Capitol incident on January 6. Ahead of her confirmation hearings, when she is anticipated to be subjected to a barrage of questions, especially over Trump’s purported threats of retaliation if re-elected, Bondi, who has close political ties to the president, has been meeting with senators.

Bondi has criticized the criminal cases against Trump but has remained largely silent on the January 6 prosecutions. When asked whether these prosecutions would continue under her leadership, she declined to comment, which has angered some Democrats who hoped for a clear answer.

Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis offered his advice to Bondi, urging her not to focus on being liked by bureaucrats if confirmed and to take any attacks from the press as a badge of honor, signaling that she would be doing the right thing.

Trump, in a recent interview, revealed that he plans to begin his presidency by pardoning individuals convicted in the January 6th events, specifically those who were nonviolent. He expressed his belief that most of those individuals should not be in jail, claiming they had suffered gravely.

On foreign policy, Trump criticized President Joe Biden for allowing Ukraine to use U.S.-made weapons against targets in Russia. He also suggested that efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict could be more successful once he returns to office. Trump argued that the Middle East is a more solvable problem than the Russia-Ukraine situation, although he acknowledged its complexities.

Trump also weighed in on Vice President Kamala Harris, calling her decision to run for president her biggest mistake. He stated that it was crucial for people to “know what you’re good at” and criticized Harris for not engaging with the press more during her campaign, suggesting that her reluctance to speak publicly hurt her image.
