When asked about Rep. Matt Gaetz’s decision to step aside as President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for attorney general, Pennsylvania Democratic Senator John Fetterman replied cynically. Fetterman responded to a reporter’s question with a joke, ridiculing the development stating ““Holy s‑‑‑, I didn’t see that coming,”
Gaetz announced his withdrawal via a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating that while his meetings with senators had been productive, his confirmation had become “an unfair distraction” to the Trump-Vance transition team’s critical work. Trump, however, praised Gaetz on his Truth Social platform, calling him a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney who has been instrumental in pursuing reforms within the Department of Justice.

Gaetz showed full support for Bondi, describing her on X as a stellar selection and commending her as a proven litigator and leader. Meanwhile, Bondi’s nomination stirred debate among political commentators. MSNBC contributor Jason Johnson labeled her a formidable figure, cautioning that her competency poses a threat to Democrats.
Johnson expressed concerns that Bondi could enable Trump’s agenda at the Justice Department, warning of the risks of an authoritarian presidency that could undermine Americans’ fundamental rights. Despite the divisive reactions, Bondi’s selection underscores Trump’s determination to reshape the DOJ and push forward his vision for America.
