Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the president-elect Donald Trump’s choice to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is outlining his ideas to enhance public health in the United States, especially for children. Kennedy, who gained notoriety in the summer for defecting from the Democratic Party and running for president as an Independent, is emphasizing the risks associated with highly processed foods.

In a previous interview with Fox News, grave concerns were expressed by Kennedy about the impact of these foods on the nation’s youth. It was stated to him that a generation of kids is currently swimming around in a toxic soup, with criticism directed at how industries have corrupted government agencies, allowing harmful substances to be consumed by children.

Dr. Marc Siegel, Fox News’ senior medical analyst, appeared on Fox & Friends to discuss Kennedy’s health agenda, particularly his focus on ultra-processed foods. According to Siegel, these foods now make up 73% of the U.S. food supply, and one of the biggest dangers lies in the artificial food coloring used in many products.

Siegel especially brought up the fact that Red Dye No. 3, which is already illegal in Europe and will soon be outlawed in California, has been connected to animal cancer. Bipartisan attempts to outlaw specific food additives in the United States have also been sparked by research suggesting that some food dyes may cause hyperactivity in kids. However, the food business and its lobbyists have fiercely opposed these initiatives, arguing that stricter rules may raise grocery store prices, which are already a major worry for American households.

Siegel also highlighted other harmful additives, including MSG and high-fructose corn syrup, which he claims are contributing to the nation’s obesity epidemic. He explained that excessive consumption of sugar, salt, and nitrates is linked to serious health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and even cancer.

Despite the mounting evidence against these additives, the regulatory hurdles Kennedy would face in pushing for change were acknowledged by Siegel. It was noted by him that pressure is being put on the FDA, the food industry, and the pharmaceutical industry by powerful lobby groups in Congress. He further stated that their influence is so significant that it dwarfs the FDA.

In his efforts to reform the healthcare system, it has been made clear by Kennedy Jr. that his goal is not to dismantle the pharmaceutical industry, but rather to encourage a healthier lifestyle that could reduce the need for expensive medical interventions. This sentiment was shared by Siegel, who emphasized the need for tax incentives that would encourage healthy habits such as walking, eating farm-to-table food, and increasing produce consumption. It was stated by him that we’ve got to go back to a healthier lifestyle, with the belief that this approach would lead to spending less money on being ultra-sick.

One particularly controversial aspect of Kennedy’s plan is his stance on fluoride in drinking water. During an interview with NBC’s Vaughn Hillyard, the discussion became heated when Hillyard questioned Kennedy on his views regarding fluoride, which he believes lowers children’s IQs. Kennedy emphasized that his goal is not to force water districts to remove fluoride but to provide them with the scientific information and legal guidance needed to make informed decisions.

It was stated by Kennedy that fluoride is likely on the way out. He clarified that he’s not going to compel anybody to take it out, but he is going to advise the water districts about their legal liability and the science behind it. It was also expressed that fluoride will eventually disappear.
