The state of Texas is now a city for illegal migrants

Here is what's going on: Between 50,000 and 75,000 individuals live in Colony Ridge, a housing construction project in rural Texas that is thought to be an "illegal alien settlement." It is nearly the size of Washington, D.C., and covers more than 60 square miles in Liberty County. Under President Joe Biden, both are increasing quickly.

Who is responsible: The real estate development company Terrenos Houston has lax identification criteria, offers incredibly low prices, only targets Spanish-speaking customers, and does not verify applicants' citizenship. Republicans in Texas, including Governor Greg Abbott, have received donations from businessmen associated with the project.

Limited police presence: According to a writer who has seen the region, residents live in subpar conditions with little law enforcement presence. When stopping people, the Liberty County Sheriff's office claims that it "would take forever" to check their immigration status. Additionally, there are allegations that Colony Ridge is home to a Mexican cartel.

Criminal activity: In the same county, an undocumented immigrant shot and killed five of his neighbors.

Why it’s important: Despite the property owners' denials that they are housing an illegal immigrant "settlement," their conduct raises the possibility that the American border problem is being profited from at the expense of the rule of law. Making entire cities serve this sizeable population promotes greater crime and hinders cultural absorption, all of which have led to instability in nations with large migrant populations.

YouTube stops Russell Brand from earning money on the platform

Here is what’s going on: According to a British exposé released on Saturday, well-known YouTuber and comedian Russell Brand has been charged with rape, sexual assault, and abuse of four women. The unnamed women allege that the former Hollywood star abused them sexually between 2006 and 2013. Prior to the claims being public, Brand vehemently rejected them and stated that all of his encounters were "consensual."

  • Demonetized: YouTube declared on Tuesday that Brand could no longer profit from the site, in response to the claims. Brand is not being held accountable for any criminal offenses.

Lack of proof: Similar to other prior #MeToo charges, Brand's guilt has not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Instead of reporting the alleged assaults to the police right away, these four accusers waited almost ten years to come forward in a news piece and documentary that went along with it.

Why it’s important: Brand, who currently has over 6.6 million subscribers on YouTube alone, has been sharply critical of the political establishment and the mainstream media for years. Despite the presumption of innocence in America, YouTube has assumed guilt and eliminated a significant portion of Brand's income due to unsubstantiated claims.

US sheriff confirms victim of an alleged murder by an illegal immigrant is a US citizen

Here is what’s going on: An illegal immigrant from Peru, who was recently released into the U.S., has been charged with murder in Eagle Pass, Texas. The victim, a 40-year-old male from Houston, was found dead in a house with blunt-force injuries to the head following a struggle.

The accused, 64-year-old Roberto Emilio Vasquez-Santamaria, crossed into the U.S. illegally in May and was processed by Border Patrol for eventual immigration removal proceedings in 2025. He was later released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to a non-governmental organization for monitoring.

This case highlights the challenges faced by immigration authorities and the increase in illegal immigration at the U.S. border, with over 45,000 migrant encounters reported in the last five days alone in September, straining resources and leading to mass releases of migrants in various sectors.
