REPORT CORRECTION ⚠️

The number "hundreds of billions" of dollars that we cited in yesterday's report about "Biden provided resources to the Palestinians,Iran" was wrong. The exact amount is $235 million, not the "hundreds of millions" we originally said.

💥 Biden refers to the terror strike by Hamas as a "slaughter." Using the phrase "pure, unadulterated evil," President Biden compared the Hamas terror strike on Israel to the worst atrocities committed by ISIS. 🧱 The way that Hamas overran Israel's border wall. By demolishing communication towers and breaching holes in the wall that bulldozers made, Hamas terrorists sneaked into Israeli territory. The operation's sophistication suggests Iran's involvement, which most likely assisted Hamas in carrying out the intricate and well-coordinated strike. In the New York Times

The Western world faces an issue of support for Hamas

Here is what's going on: Pro-Hamas protests have started in major cities despite statements from Western leaders in favor of Israel following Hamas attacks. The majority of the protesters, who were young people, waved Palestinian flags in support of the attacks from Florida to New York to London to Vienna to Australia.

  • The details: demonstrators, brandishing "Free Palestine" signs, have used Nazi imagery, cheered the number of deaths, and called for Muslim uprisings to gas Jews.

  • Remember: There have also been a lot of pro-Israel protests. Pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian activists have occasionally fought. Arab and Muslim nations, meanwhile, publicly supported Hamas.

Why it’s important: Right now, it's unlikely that these protests will have an impact on the choices made by Western politicians. However, they are a part of a long, steady decrease in Western support for Israel. A Gallup poll conducted this year revealed that while the majority of Americans still sympathize more with Israel than with the Palestinians, millennials do so somewhat more so.

Where does it originate? The majority of the crowd at protests seems to be made up of Muslim immigrants.

  • In Europe: As a result of the refugee crisis, Muslims are predicted to account for 11.2% of the continent's population by 2050. Even though they only make up 4.9% of the population, tensions have grown as Christians and Muslims disagree on moral principles.

  • In the U.S: There are between four and seven million Muslims in the United States, most of whom immigrated from the Middle East and South Asia after 2000, according to some estimates. The majority in this group are younger than the average American population.

Dive deeper: The leaders of the U.S., U.K., France, Italy, and Germany went to great lengths to distinguish Hamas from Palestinians in a declaration supporting Israel, claiming that the terrorist organization "does not represent" Palestinian aspirations. However, a survey conducted in 2021 found that more than half of Palestinians believed Hamas was "most deserving of representing and leading" them.

The consequences of Hamas's attack on Israel

Here is what's going on: Although the full extent of Hamas' assault into southern Israel has not yet been established, as has the amount of Israel's inevitable response, the wider consequences for Israel, the region, and the world have already become apparent.

Israeli politics teetered: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's administration appeared to be in trouble in the wake of divisive judiciary reforms. Now that he is in charge of the battle, opposition figures like former defense minister Benny Gantz and former prime minister Yair Lapid have each offered to lead a national unity government during the conflict.

Saudi-Israeli relations on hold: Hamas's attack may have been an effort to make it politically impossible for Saudi Arabia to proceed toward normalizing relations with Israel. This has put Saudi-Israeli negotiations on hold. If so, Hamas might have had some short-term success. Saudi Arabia released a statement shortly after the bombings accusing Israel of "the deprivation of" Palestinian rights. It did not, however, formally terminate any negotiations.

  • Remember: Compared to his predecessors, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has been regarded as being more futuristic and less constrained by ideology. It will be interesting to see if his potential desire for long-term stability triumphs against the pressure to support the Palestinians.

America's reaction: As a show of support for Israel, the United States has sent a carrier strike group to the Eastern Mediterranean. Even while there are known Americans among the victims and hostages, there is yet no sign that military action is in the works.

President Joe Biden's border wall

Here is what's going on: The Biden administration announced last week that it will waive 26 federal rules in South Texas to permit the construction of a new border wall. The action marks Biden's first use of executive authority to clear the way for additional border barriers, a strategy that was frequently used under the Trump administration. The border patrol stated that over 200,000 persons were detained in September, including a record-breaking 50,000 migrants from Venezuela.

In South Texas' Starr County, where there are around 66,000 residents, the Department of Homeland Security revealed intentions to erect the wall. This county has experienced significant amounts of undocumented immigration into the US. In this fiscal year alone, the Border Patrol has identified almost 245,000 unlawful entries in the region.

The administration is being forced to act by an increasing wave of migrants that has now overrun border communities and even big northern cities like Chicago and New York. Biden's executive decision represents a significant departure from his campaign promise to not erect even a single additional foot of border wall. He had to waive the Clean Air Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act in order to proceed with building the wall, which he intends to pay for with money from a 2019 congressional authorization. The wall is anticipated to extend the region's current border barrier by about 20 kilometers.

The news was denounced by Democrats, immigrant rights organizations, and environmental organizations. "Constructing a border wall is a 14th-century response to a 21st-century issue. According to a statement from Representative Henry Cuellar (D-TX), it won't improve border security in Starr County. "I will continue to oppose the wasteful spending of tax dollars on a border wall that is ineffective."

Conservationist Laiken Jordahl of the Center for Biological Diversity referred to it as "a horrific step backward for the borderlands," saying that it would "stop wildlife migrations dead in their tracks" and "destroy a huge amount of wildlife refuge land."

Many Republicans, meanwhile, blasted Biden for delaying his attention to the border and claimed that he only authorized construction once blue cities started to acknowledge the reality of what is occurring on the border.

During his tenure as president, former President Trump oversaw the construction of 450 miles of border wall in the southwest. Additional wall construction in Starr County will also necessitate encroachments onto privately held land, which has angered some locals.

The Biden administration has defended the action, claiming that Congress had already appropriated funds for the wall's construction. There is "an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border," according to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
