Everything you need to know

🗳 Biden prevails in the Michigan primary, but 13% of voters choose "uncommitted." Tuesday's Michigan primary saw the president win handily, but the "uncommitted" protest vote delivered a strong message that might prove detrimental in the general election. With 68 percent of the vote, Donald Trump won the state; Nikki Haley received only 26 percent of the vote.

✍️ In the face of poor support, Biden is preparing for unilateral action against immigration. The president is thinking of enacting a new executive order that would make it harder for immigrants to enter the nation legally and pass the screening process. When a migrant claims a "credible fear," the screening officers would have to increase the bar.

📰 A former editor of the New York Times claims the newspaper was "concerned" about harming Biden in the 2020 race. Former NYT editor Adam Rubenstein claims that their reporters were worried about publishing articles that would harm Democratic candidates like Joe Biden's chances of winning elections. This was demonstrated by Time's choice to wrongly characterize the Hunter Biden laptop report as "unsubstantiated," thereby undermining its credibility.

Migrant violence reaches breaking point

Here is what's going on: Jose Ibarra, a man from Venezuela, is accused of killing and kidnapping 22-year-old Laken Riley, a student in Georgia, many times. The fact that Ibarra is an undocumented immigrant has sparked fresh criticism of left-wing border policies.

How he got here: In 2022, Ibarra entered the country illegally. However, under President Joe Biden's parole program, he was freed, allegedly because there wasn't enough room to hold him. Judges have declared the scheme unlawful.

  • Criminal history: Ibarra was charged with "acting in a manner to injure a child" after his detention in New York City, but he was freed before immigration officials could start the deportation process. Regardless, local law enforcement's capacity to collaborate with the federal authorities would have been restricted by NYC's so-called sanctuary city regulations.

  • Graphic details: Riley was allegedly attacked by Ibarra while out jogging. Riley allegedly suffered severe beatings that left her head deformed, and Ibarra covered it up by dragging Riley's body "to a secluded area." Her university's police department described her murder as a "crime of opportunity" with no apparent reason.

Why it’s important: If the federal immigration law were merely implemented as now, many would view the alleged murder as just another instance of needless violence that could have been avoided.

The pattern: In just the last two months, charges have been brought against illegal migrants nationwide about attacks on law enforcement officers, sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl, shooting incidents that resulted in injuries to a woman, stabbing deaths of other migrants, the hit-and-run death of a 10-year-old, and the murder of a two-year-old.

  • Breaking point: New York City's Democratic mayor has stated that sanctuary measures should be modified to guarantee the deportation of immigrants who are thought to have committed "serious crimes."

Biden's muddled approach to liquefied natural gas

Here is what's going on: All new LNG export initiatives were put on hold by the Biden administration in January.

  • Context: Biden's choice is questionable because the United States has the highest LNG export capacity in the world and because worldwide demand is predicted to increase by 46% by 2050.

Reasons: Citing climate change as "the existential threat of our time," Biden backed the pause. Reports, however, indicate that TikTok climate activists and billionaire benefactors exerted significant pressure on the administration.

  • Incoherent energy policy: Biden's expansion of drilling projects to combat rising gas prices and his simultaneous restriction of them to placate climate activists occurred during his presidency.

  • Beyond the headlines: Some claim that the purposeful suspension of LNG export projects is to penalize conservative areas like Texas for opposing Biden's immigration policies.

Geopolitical ramifications: Russia, China, and Qatar will be able to increase their market domination as a result of the United States' withdrawal from LNG. In the month following Biden's announcement of the halt, Qatar declared that it will increase its LNG output by 85% by 2030, perhaps gaining a quarter of the market shortly.

Why this matters: The United States' strategic and economic standing may be harmed, both absolute and relative, if there were a sharp drop in its LNG shipments.

  • Base alienation: Biden's confused energy policy also runs the risk of upsetting a significant portion of his supporters, who demand a total withdrawal from fossil fuels.
