Everything you need to know

1️⃣ One of the main campaign issues in swing states is the border situation. Republican candidates from Pennsylvania to Nevada are alerting voters to the dangers posed by an open border, which is often regarded as the weakest issue for Democrats. Bernie Moreno, the recent victor of the Ohio primary, has taken a firm stance against deportations, while Republican contenders in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Montana have released plans and advertisements addressing the issue.

🏛 Should Trump be found guilty of a crime, that might be very problematic. A criminal conviction for Trump may deplete his support and hand the election to Joe Biden, according to recent polling data. Independent voters, the majority of whom think Trump is guilty in all of his legal disputes, could decide the election. Moreover, more than one-third of them claim they would be less inclined to support him in the event of a guilty conviction.

🎤 Tony Bobulinski, a former business colleague of Hunter Biden, appears before Congress. Bobulinski, who had worked closely with Hunter Biden, charged that President Biden had broken laws against corruption and racketeering by participating in his son's international business ventures. Under pressure from Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), he also acknowledged that the president was "lying when he says he did not interact with Hunter Biden, Jim Biden, their business partners, or foreign interests."

📈 It seems like Latino voters are leaning more toward the Trump side. The number of Latinos in areas like Arizona has increased dramatically, and with it, so has their inclination for Trump. In the swing state of Arizona, the former president picked over 90,000 Latino voters between 2016 and 2020. Since one in four newly established businesses in America is owned by a Latino, this tendency is probably here to stay due to the social conservatism and small-business interests of this demographic.

Declining Popularity of Zelenskyy Might Open the door to the West

Here is what is going on: According to recent polling conducted in Ukraine, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, would easily defeat President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an election. However, Zaluzhnyi has no aspirations to become president.

Why it is important: Zelenskyy was elected without the backing of the West. His waning support may make it possible for a president more sympathetic to Western objectives to succeed him.

Rewind: Zelenskyy became victorious in the 2019 election, garnering the greatest percentage of votes ever recorded by a candidate for president of Ukraine. However, his popularity quickly declined due to allegations of corruption. His choice to remain in Kyiv and Russia's invasion caused his support ratings to soar to unprecedented heights, which fell back two years into the conflict.

  • Losing the war: Currently, 20 percent of Ukraine is under Russian control. Although the conflict was essentially at a standstill, Russia managed to seize the vital city of Avdiivka in February. Zelenskyy fired Zaluzhnyi four days later.

greeted favorably by the West? In contrast to the preferred candidate of the West, President Petro Poroshenko, former TV personality Zelenskyy won the presidency on a populist platform. Zelenskyy faced skepticism from liberal internationalists, with one characterizing him as “dangerously pro-Russian.” The West would have more influence over Ukraine after the war if Zelenskyy made way for a more accommodating candidate.

What's next: Martial law forced the postponement of elections that were supposed to take place later this month, and they most likely won't change until the war is finished.
