Everything you need to know

🇺🇦 Blinken revealed a new $2 billion fund just for Ukraine. Secretary of State Antony Blinken disclosed that the United States will create a $2 billion fund to support Ukraine's defense-industrial backbone during his unexpected visit to Kyiv. It is a "first-of-its-kind defense enterprise fund," according to Blinken, that aids the Ukrainians in manufacturing their weapons or acquiring them from other nations.

⚔️ Next month, Trump and Biden will debate. In a video posted on Wednesday, President Biden encourages former President Trump to accept a debate and "make my dal, pal." The event will not be held in front of a live audience, but CNN will present it on Thursday, June 27. In September, ABC will conduct a second debate.

📝 President Biden intends to take additional steps at the southern border. The president is putting up an executive order that would allow him to seal the border at the point where 4,000 migrants enter each day. Though Biden had earlier complained that Congress should take action, he now seems at ease using his unilateral power to reduce immigration.

🇮🇱 The Biden administration gave Israel $1 billion. President Biden has finally approved funding for Israeli tank armaments, tactical vehicles, and mortar rounds after facing backlash for stopping an earlier shipment to Israel. The administration is pleading with Israel to hold off on attacking Rafah and killing Palestinian civilians in their genocide process while continuing to supply vital weapons to appease criticism from both the left and the right.

Should Trump debate without a live audience?

Legal storm hits Trump's "fake electors"

Here’s What’s going on: Eighteen associates of the late President Donald Trump were accused by an Arizona grand jury of taking part in a purported "fake electors" plot in the 2020 election.

  • Context: In anticipation of winning their legal challenges against the outcomes of the 2020 election, Trump's allies drafted backup ballots for the Electoral College. Even though the objections ultimately failed, the indictment claims they sought to validate illegal votes in Arizona.

  • Who's involved: A number of co-defendants who were allegedly part of the Arizona conspiracy, such as Mark Meadows and attorney Rudy Giuliani, have also been charged or entered into guilty pleas in a Georgia case centered on Trump's electoral reaction. Eleven more people are also "fake electors."

  • Why is it important? Five states opened criminal investigations or cases in connection with Trump's 2020 Electoral College plan. Legal experts disagree on whether the strategy was illegal; while the use of substitute electors is not novel, being prosecuted for it is.

Previous contentious elections: Those who are skeptical cite the use of alternate electors by Democrats in the 1960 JFK and Republicans in the 1976 election.

  • Safeguards: After a ballot recount, John F. Kennedy was declared elected thanks to the alternate electoral votes that his supporters filed. When the 2020 recounts were held, Trump's supporters sought the same guarantees.

  • Zoom out: In the Arizona case, one of the co-defendants is in charge of the Republican National Committee's (RNC) election integrity initiatives. In 13 states, the RNC appointed "election integrity directors" in response to the 2020 election scandals to guarantee free and fair elections.
