FBI Director Kash Patel has launched a thorough investigation into former FBI Director James Comey concerning the alleged surveillance of the 2016 Trump campaign, following explosive claims from a whistleblower.

The Washington Times reported that Comey, whom President Donald Trump dismissed from his role as FBI director in 2017, is facing serious accusations of authorizing an “off-the-books” investigation into Trump. According to the whistleblower, Comey personally directed two undercover female agents to infiltrate the Trump campaign in 2015. This investigation, separate from the discredited Crossfire Hurricane probe into supposed Russian interference, was reportedly initiated outside official channels and lacked a legitimate foundation. Crossfire Hurricane was nothing more than a baseless conspiracy theory, concocted by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and supported by the likes of Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), aimed at tarnishing Trump’s chances.

Patel and newly appointed FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino have reportedly begun investigating Comey based on the whistleblower’s allegations. The investigation centers around the FBI’s covert plan to infiltrate the Trump campaign using two female undercover agents—an operation that was not part of any official case file or legal investigation.

As the Times revealed, the whistleblower came forward last year with a protected disclosure to the House Judiciary Committee, exposing the 2015 operation that was never officially recorded in the FBI’s systems. This covert investigation, which seemed more like a politically motivated “fishing expedition” than a legitimate inquiry, was designed to find any evidence, no matter how flimsy, to damage Trump. The whistleblower’s account claims that Comey not only authorized this investigation but directly oversaw it, concealing it from the Justice Department’s Inspector General Michael Horowitz, who was tasked with overseeing FBI misconduct.

The whistleblower further described how Comey’s decision to forgo an official investigation file—using the FBI’s sensitive methods of secrecy to protect the investigation—raises serious questions about institutional bias within the FBI against Trump. It seems clear that the operation was conducted without any legal justification, with the only goal being to create dirt on Trump.

The secretive investigation ended abruptly when a major newspaper prepared to release a photo of one of the undercover agents. In an attempt to suppress the revelation, the FBI Press Office intervened, claiming that publishing the photo would endanger an FBI informant. However, it was later revealed that the image depicted an FBI undercover agent, not an informant. One of the agents involved in the operation reportedly transferred to the CIA to avoid becoming a witness in any future proceedings, while the other agent received a promotion within the FBI and currently holds a prominent position at a major field office.

Additionally, the whistleblower disclosed that certain FBI staff were ordered to remain silent about the operation, signaling a clear effort to intimidate those involved and prevent further exposure of the FBI’s bias against Trump. This investigation represents a long-overdue reckoning for Comey and his allies, who used the FBI as a political weapon against President Trump. Under new leadership, the FBI may finally be held accountable for its overreach and partisan behavior during the 2016 campaign and beyond.
