In an effort to combat the increase in drones and unidentified flying objects (UFOs) that have been sighted over a number of states, including New Jersey, New York, and California, federal authorities are getting ready to install a sophisticated drone detecting system in New York State. Authorities have been baffled by these aerial phenomena for weeks, and the technology is anticipated to help state and local law enforcement determine their nature.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul expressed gratitude for the Biden Administration’s support but emphasized the need for further assistance from Congress. She called for the passing of the Counter-UAS Authority Security, Safety, and Reauthorization Act, which would provide the necessary authority and resources to respond to such incidents effectively.

The announcement came shortly after former CIA officer Laura Ballman speculated on Fox News that the mysterious drones might be part of a classified exercise aimed at testing evasion or detection technology in urban areas. Up until now, the Biden administration has maintained that many of the objects seen are piloted aircraft but insisted they are not a threat or linked to foreign nations like Iran.

Criticism has mounted regarding the administration’s response, with some accusing officials of either deliberately withholding information or being incapable of identifying the drones. President-elect Donald Trump also weighed in, expressing skepticism and urging the government to be more transparent. In a post on Truth Social, Trump suggested the government should disclose what it knows or take more drastic action, such as shooting the drones down.
