Rep. Mike Waltz, a Republican from Florida, has been chosen to be President-elect Donald Trump’s national security adviser as he continues to assemble his staff for his second term. Fox News reports that Waltz, a well-known Trump surrogate throughout the 2024 campaign, was instrumental in military outreach initiatives and served as the leader of the Veterans For Trump coalition.
A retired Green Beret and the first to serve in Congress, Waltz brings valuable experience to the role, having previously worked as a policy adviser to former Defense Secretaries Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report that Waltz had been offered the position.

However, Waltz’s appointment could complicate the Republicans’ ability to govern the House, as replacing him would take several weeks. Although Waltz represents a solidly red district on Florida’s eastern coast, making his seat unlikely to be lost to Democrats, the process of filling his position could disrupt the chamber’s functioning.

Waltz is the second GOP lawmaker to be tapped for the Trump administration. Earlier on the same day, Trump announced that Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, the fourth-ranking Republican in the House, had been selected to serve as his UN ambassador.

Stefanik, who was reelected to her sixth term in the House, has been a vocal supporter of the GOP’s positions on various issues, including Israel and the so-called Biden Crime Family. She made headlines recently by questioning Ivy League university presidents about the rise in antisemitism on college campuses following the October 7 terrorist attacks on Israel.

In her statement to the Post, Stefanik emphasized the challenges ahead, noting the rise in antisemitism and the weakening of U.S. national security under the Biden administration. She added that she stands ready to advance Trump’s restoration of America First peace through strength.

Further reports suggest that South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem will be appointed to serve as the next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Noem, like Homan, is a staunch advocate for strong enforcement of U.S. immigration and border security laws.
