A Capitol Hill restaurant employee in Washington, D.C., was fired for publicly expressing plans to refuse service to Trump administration officials. Suzannah Van Rooy, who worked at Beuchert’s Saloon, told The Washingtonian that she would personally refuse to serve individuals she identified as sex traffickers or those supporting mass deportations. Van Rooy explained that her decision wasn’t based on political party but on moral convictions she felt strongly opposed to her own.

Her remarks, which were included in an article on opposition to Trump administration officials, were likened to events that occurred during his first term, such the time Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the press secretary for the White House, was asked to leave the Red Hen restaurant in Virginia. Van Rooy said he was disappointed by the apparent lack of enthusiasm this time but hoped that people would continue to oppose the government.

Van Rooy’s role at Beuchert’s Saloon included managing daily operations and coordinating events for political figures and VIPs. However, the restaurant quickly condemned her comments, stating they were “reprehensible” and violated their zero-tolerance policy on discrimination. They clarified that Van Rooy was a part-time server without management authority, emphasizing that her views did not reflect the restaurant’s stance.
