North Dakota Police Chief Pete Nielson is expressing frustration with the lack of federal assistance in dealing with the criminal activities of Tren de Aragua gang members in his city. Nielson, whose department is now handling cases linked to the gang, explained that local law enforcement is struggling to tackle crimes that cross state lines without federal resources.

The comments follow the November arrest of 25-year-old Henry Theis, who was charged with ATM theft in West Fargo, North Dakota. Theis, allegedly involved in stealing approximately $100,000, was previously arrested by Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas, last year but released under the Biden administration. He was later arrested in Texas for driving while intoxicated (DWI), but Lewisville authorities released him. This then moved on to North Dakota, where he was caught with over $24,000 in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

Chief Nielson emphasized that the federal government should be more involved, particularly since the suspect was an illegal immigrant. He also expressed hope that the situation would improve when President-Elect Donald Trump assumes office. Nielson indicated he would be willing to cooperate with Trump’s mass deportation plans if directed by federal authorities.
