Liberal pundits on various news networks have expressed concern following President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement that former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi will replace Matt Gaetz as his pick for U.S. Attorney General.
During an appearance on MSNBC’s The Beat With Ari Melber, political scientist Jason Johnson characterized Bondi as a highly competent legal operator capable of advancing Trump’s political agenda. While Johnson acknowledged ideological differences, he emphasized Bondi’s effectiveness in the role, describing her as a dangerous and effective pick.

Bondi’s Record on Immigration and Education
Bondi’s strong stance on immigration and her track record on education policy were highlighted by Johnson as key areas that could shape her tenure as Attorney General. It was explained that her knowledge of immigration was well recognized, with Florida being noted as one of the states that had been very aggressive about migrants, deportation, and moving people to different states.

He also pointed to Florida’s controversial laws restricting student rights and education funding manipulation under Bondi’s leadership, stressing that she was a dangerous and effective pick for those opposed to her positions.
Conservative Support for Bondi
In contrast, conservative CNN contributor Scott Jennings praised Bondi’s nomination, calling it a fantastic upgrade over Gaetz. Jennings argued that, while Gaetz was loyal to Trump, his personal and professional baggage made him a poor fit for the role and unlikely to gain Senate confirmation.

Trump’s Endorsement of Bondi
On his Truth Social platform, Trump offered a glowing endorsement of Bondi, emphasizing her tough approach to crime as Florida’s Attorney General and her work addressing the opioid crisis. Trump praised her work in combating drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl, and highlighted her efforts to reduce overdose deaths, which he claimed had devastated many American families.
It was continued by Trump that, for too long, the partisan Department of Justice had been weaponized against him and other Republicans, but this would no longer be the case. It was stated that Pam would refocus the DOJ on its intended purpose of fighting crime and making America safe again. Her intelligence, toughness, and status as an America First fighter were emphasized, with the belief that she would do a terrific job as Attorney General.
