The U.S. military launched over 75 precision strikes against ISIS positions in Syria late Sunday, following the collapse of the Assad regime. These strikes targeted known ISIS camps and operatives in central Syria, as part of a mission to prevent the group from expanding its reach and launching attacks against Western nations. The ongoing campaign aims to disrupt and degrade ISIS, with the ultimate goal of defeating the terror group.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) clarified that the primary goal of the strikes was to prevent ISIS from capitalizing on the instability caused by the Assad regime’s downfall. The airstrikes aimed to stop the group from re-establishing its presence in the region and carrying out external operations against Western targets.
Military officials said no civilian casualties were reported during the air campaign. Assessments of the Air Force jets’ battle damage are still being conducted. U.S. Central Command Chief General Michael Erik Kurilla reiterated the United States’ obligation to stop ISIS from reorganizing in Syria. He added that everyone in Syria who aids or collaborates with ISIS would face consequences.
These strikes are part of a broader effort to contain the threat of ISIS and ensure that the terrorist group does not exploit the current situation in Syria. The ongoing conflict in the region has raised concerns about the possible resurgence of ISIS and its ability to destabilize further parts of the Middle East.
