When identification was requested, Mangione allegedly presented a fake New Jersey ID, which had been widely reported as the one used to check into a New York City hostel shortly before Thompson’s death. Further information from CNN noted Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens’ statement that Mangione had remained in Pennsylvania for several days before his arrest.
