Rapper Jay-Z and recording mogul Sean Diddy Combs are accused in a new lawsuit of helping to rape a 13-year-old girl. Jay-Z has refuted the claims, claiming they are an effort at blackmail. The New York lawsuit, which only names Jane Doe as the accuser, alleges that she was raped by Jay-Z, whose actual name is Shawn Carter, at a home party after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Jay-Z was added to the complaint on Sunday after it had originally named Combs as the only defendant.

Attorney Tony Buzbee, who filed the suit, stated that Carter received a letter from the Plaintiff’s counsel requesting a mediation to resolve this matter before the lawsuit was filed. Jay-Z has since filed his own lawsuit in response.

In a detailed post shared via Roc Nation’s official X account on Sunday, rapper Jay-Z accused attorney Tony Buzbee of attempting to blackmail him. Jay-Z claimed that Buzbee calculated that the public scrutiny surrounding the allegations would pressure him into settling the case. Instead, Jay-Z asserted that it had the opposite effect, motivating him to publicly expose Buzbee as a fraud.

Jay-Z further condemned the severity of the allegations, urging Buzbee to pursue a criminal complaint rather than a civil one, emphasizing that anyone committing such a crime against a minor should be imprisoned. He added that the alleged victims deserved true justice.

The rapper also described Buzbee’s actions as deplorable and made it clear that he would not engage in what he considered games. He concluded by dismissing the claims as idiotic and stated that only conspiracy theorists would believe them, noting that, were it not for the serious nature of the harm to children, the allegations would be laughable and in a lengthy Instagram comment, Buzbee later addressed the post and said that since he filed the complaint, he has been the target of harassment and threats.

According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the plaintiff in the lawsuit claims that she was dropped off at Radio City Music Hall, where the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards were being held, despite not having a ticket. She was reportedly trying to gain entry to the ceremony or the afterparty when a limousine driver, who claimed to work for Sean Diddy Combs, allegedly told her she fit what Diddy was looking for.

The lawsuit also alleges that the woman was asked to sign what she believed to be a nondisclosure agreement in order to attend a party after being driven there. Once at the party, she claimed to have witnessed celebrities and others using cocaine and marijuana. Later, she was given a drink that left her feeling woozy, lightheaded, and in need of lying down, according to the lawsuit. It is further claimed that after she went to rest in a room, Combs and Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) entered the room where she was lying down.
