The hosts of Fox & Friends Weekend raised concerns over President Joe Biden’s decision to commute the sentence of Michael T. Conahan who was involved in the infamous kids for cash scandal.

Conahan, who was among the 1,500 individuals granted sentence commutations this week, gained significant attention due to his role in the scheme, where he accepted kickbacks from private prisons in exchange for sentencing juveniles to detention. In addition to commuting Conahan’s sentence, Biden also granted 39 pardons to non-violent offenders.

Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, denounced Biden’s choice as being completely incorrect. According to the White House, Conahan’s placement in house confinement during the COVID outbreak qualified him for commutation. Conahan is currently free after receiving a sentence of more than 17 years in jail in 2011.

Pittsburgh columnist Salena Zito spoke on Fox News, calling Conahan’s actions a profound scandal and emphasizing the devastating impact on families, including the suicide of a young man sentenced to juvenile detention under Conahan’s scheme. Sandy Fonzo, whose son tragically took his life as a result of Conahan’s actions, issued a statement condemning the decision. She said that Conahan’s actions destroyed families, including hers.

Fox co-hosts Carley Shimkus and Kevin Corke also expressed outrage. Shimkus described Conahan’s actions as beyond disgusting, while Corke highlighted the extreme nature of exploiting vulnerable children for financial gain. Biden has faced significant criticism, including from his own party, for his recent pardon of his son, Hunter Biden. The pardon, granted for Hunter’s tax-related crimes, sparked further controversy as special counsel David Weiss filed a motion to continue pursuing charges against him, despite Hunter’s claims of political motivations behind the charges.
