According to a recent YouGov poll, most Americans are in favor of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s changes to the public health and food industries, including some that President-elect Donald Trump has supported, such as Kennedy’s appointment to head the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The poll shows widespread support for Kennedy’s initiatives, with nearly 8 in 10 American adults backing the requirement for nutrition education in federally funded medical schools. Additionally, 74% of Americans support banning certain food additives, including dyes, from the nation’s food supply. Support for banning food additives spans both political parties, with 74% of Democrats and 81% of Republicans backing the idea.

Moreover, 66% of Americans, including 71% of Democrats and 66% of Republicans, favor increasing restrictions on the use of pesticides in agricultural products. A majority of both Republicans (66%) and Democrats (68%) also support banning processed foods in public school lunches.

The poll reveals party differences on a few key public health concerns, such as the prohibition of the medication Ozempic for weight loss. Only 43% of Democrats agree with limitations, compared to 52% of Republicans. Regarding fluoride in drinking water, the poll reveals the most differences. According to Kennedy, 56% of Republicans support eliminating fluoride, but only 32% of Democrats do the same.

Kennedy, who endorsed Trump for president in August, has argued for reforms to U.S. regulatory bodies that are too influenced by for-profit corporations. He highlights the growing chronic illness epidemic in the country, stating that two-thirds of American adults and children now suffer from chronic health issues, a sharp increase from less than 1% five decades ago.
