Manchin Just Got Berned by GOP Buddies
When Joe Manchin, a centrist Democrat, announced his support for Joe Biden’s most recent tax-and-spend bill, the nation was taken aback. Because of his vote, there will be an increase in taxes, and a decrease in paychecks and the ongoing shortage of gasoline will carry on for years.

Manchin went to great lengths in order to arrange a backroom deal that would be to his advantage. He anticipated that Republicans would just cave in and agree to his deal. But now he is being taken by surprise by a member of his own side, as well as by the Republican Party. In their opposition to the side deal negotiated by Joe Manchin, Republicans have taken the side of far-left socialist Bernie Sanders.

Sen. Bernie Sanders opposes the bill because it will hasten the process of obtaining permits for the construction of pipelines and other projects. In a typical scenario, Republicans are the party most likely to support reforms of this nature. However, following the way that Manchin has stabbed them in the back, it does not appear that they will be of any use to him.
A law that will keep the government operational is currently being bundled with a side deal that will be included in the Continuing Resolution. However, if Sanders and the Republicans don’t back the CR, it might not pass, which would result in a shutdown of the government. The Republican Party is putting forth its very own proposal for how the permitting reforms should be implemented. This alternative bill has the support of at least 46 senators from the Republican party.

It is highly improbable that the bill proposed by the Republicans would ever be passed into law. However, this presents them with the opportunity to support the same measures while simultaneously sticking it to their reliable ally Joe Manchin.
In the absence of sufficient backing, Manchin’s deal is doomed to fail. Already, progressives in the House have declared that they will work to get rid of it, which will require a significant number of Republicans there as well.
On the other hand, Republicans are not going to do this Democrat any favors under any circumstances. The Democrats are in serious peril if the side deal is not successful and the government shuts down.
This whole thing is going down just a few weeks before the midterm elections. The Democrats will make a mistake right before they cross the finish line, providing the Republicans with the ideal campaign angle.
