The 2nd Amendment Foundation Files Federal Lawsuit

During the course of the summer, the Supreme Court issued a decision that was favorable to gun owners. They came to the conclusion that New York State’s restricted gun policies were in violation of the Second Amendment.

But did the governor actually follow through and comply with the decision of the court? Nope! In point of fact, the state made things even more difficult. The state passed new legislation to tighten restrictions on firearms, but the new law makes it impossible for anyone with a license to carry a hidden weapon to use their weapon for the purpose of self-defense.

Therefore, rendering meaningless the exact basis upon which the Supreme Court based its ruling. However, proponents of the Second Amendment are not going to take this lying down. Why did anyone believe that a state as liberal as New York would comply with a judgment that was favorable to the Second Amendment?

Despite the fact that restrictive language was removed from New York’s concealed carry law, lawmakers have nonetheless made it so that permit holders are unable to carry their guns. Because of the new legislation, the vast majority of locations in the state of New York have been designated as sensitive, which means that gun owners are prohibited from doing so there.

Because the governor herself has indicated that New Yorkers won’t be permitted to carry their weapons outside of their houses, concealed carry permits have been rendered meaningless as a result. This goes well beyond the law that they previously had in place. Therefore, the Second Amendment Foundation filed a lawsuit against them.

They want to take this matter all the way to the federal courts and demand that the state statute in question is overturned. It is possible that the case may be heard once more by the Supreme Court, which may be required to provide a more definitive ruling in favor of the right to bear arms.
