House GOP Moves to Play Their Their Bargaining CHIP
Have you been supporting Senator Joe Manchin in your heartfelt prayers? This one person has virtually single-handedly prevented his own party from spending irresponsibly, blowing away the filibuster, and stacking the Supreme Court with members. It would appear that it is about time to give up supporting the Democrat who is acting independently.

Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia resisted President Joe Biden’s aggressive spending agenda for a number of months. However, with only a few months left until the midterm elections, the so-called moderates are all of a sudden in favor of massive expenditure and increased taxation. It would appear that Mitch McConnell had planned all along to vote against the semiconductor deal in the event that Joe Manchin backed the funding bill. It would appear that McConnell acted too hastily and was taken advantage of by the Democrats.
Why would McConnell put his faith in a man like Manchin, who always backs down when the pressure is turned up? On the other hand, while McConnell failed dismally, Republicans in the House may have an opportunity to retaliate. As a result of McConnell’s blundering vote for the CHIPS measure and Manchin’s successful prank, House Republicans are strongly encouraging their colleagues to cast a vote against the semiconductor package.
Because Senate Democrats, and particularly Manchin, went back on their pledge, the leadership of the Republican Party in the House is pressuring members to cast their votes against the deal. If every Republican in the House votes against the CHIPS measure, then it will be necessary for each and every Democrat to support it for it to be passed. As of right now, it is uncertain whether or not the Democrats have enough votes. It’s possible that a number of Democrats who identify as progressive may vote against a bill that gives billions of dollars to large corporations.

Not to mention the fact that this CHIPS law is expected to compete with China, a nation that many Democrats appear to love more than they love the United States. If the Republicans in the House are successful in holding up the CHIPS measure, they may also be successful in stopping the reconciliation plan. Regardless of the outcome, this story illustrates how untrustworthy both McConnell and Manchin are as leaders.
Before voting on the CHIPS measure, McConnell ought to have shown more conviction in his position and waited for the reconciliation bill to be defeated first. He put his faith in Manchin, a Democrat who is readily swayed by the demands of his radical party to act in accordance with those demands. It’s possible that Manchin hails from a traditionally conservative state, but at the end of the day, he’ll vote the way Schumer wants him to. This could cost him support back home, but it would keep him in good standing with the swamp in Washington, D.C.
